Siniša Mali, the Mayor of Belgrade, has apologized to journalists who had their equipment confiscated when they were trying to ask him questions about 24 apartments on the Black Sea coast.

A statement released by the Mayor Sinisa Mali said that incident happened after a group of unknown people approached him during talks with a contractor at the Belgrade Waterfront site, saying they were journalists.

“I did not answer their questions, expecting that all the journalists would be waiting at the site of the event,” Mali said. “I respect media freedom and the journalists know I am always available for interviews.”

KRIK journalists had their recording devices confiscated while trying to question Mali on his alleged connection to a string of properties in Bulgaria. Security proceeded to delete footage they had recorded, but these were later recovered.
