{"id":28522,"date":"2019-06-25T12:22:12","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T10:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.krik.rs\/?p=28522"},"modified":"2019-06-25T12:22:18","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T10:22:18","slug":"new-details-about-serbian-mafias-ties-to-politicians-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.krik.rs\/en\/new-details-about-serbian-mafias-ties-to-politicians-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"New Details About Serbian Mafia\u2019s Ties to Politicians Revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The retired head of Serbia\u2019s Criminal Police confirmed years-long rumors about the complex ties between the country\u2019s police, politicians, and criminal groups in an exclusive interview with\u00a0<a href=\"\/?p=28389\">KRIK<\/a> and NIN, published Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rodoljub Milovic spoke about the rivalry between two of Belgrade\u2019s most prominent mafia groups and their ties to the country\u2019s top officials, shedding more light on issues that have long occupied Serbian media and were perceived as an open secret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In particular, Milovic spoke of direct ties between Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor \u201cZlatko\u201d Loncar with Belgrade\u2019s notorious Zemun Clan as well as other criminal gangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As reported by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.occrp.org\/en\/investigations\/4961-serbia-skeletons-in-the-closet-how-did-the-health-minister-get-an-apartment\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.occrp.org\/en\/investigations\/4961-serbia-skeletons-in-the-closet-how-did-the-health-minister-get-an-apartment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"KRIK and OCCRP (opens in a new tab)\">KRIK and OCCRP<\/a>, Loncar was an Emergency center doctor in Belgrade when in 2002 he allegedly injected a lethal cocktail into the IV drip of a Montenegrin mobster who was recovering from an unsuccessful assassination attempt by the Zemun Clan.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For finishing their job, the Clan apparently rewarded him with a free apartment that used to belong to the wife of the Clan\u2019s main hitman. Although the contract indicated that Loncar paid the woman about US$29,900, no proof of the transaction was found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milovic further said that he heard from witnesses about dubious transactions as well as the close ties between Loncar and his wife Vesna with the narco cartel of Balkan cocaine kingpin Darko Saric. Vesna Loncar, a lawyer, had previously defended members of Saric\u2019s clan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Milovic, she facilitated meetings between police inspectors and criminals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former police official also said he once spoke to a protected witness, who directly linked Loncar with Petar \u201cPana\u201d Panic, one-eyed Serbian mobster with an extensive criminal past. Panic once served as a bodyguard for convicted war criminal Vojislav Seselj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a doctor, Loncar was providing Panic with questionable medical reports that allowed him to evade justice, as previously reported by\u00a0KRIK and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.occrp.org\/en\/investigations\/8198-how-serbia-s-health-minister-helped-a-criminal-avoid-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">OCCRP<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milovic said the two unsuccessfully tried to press a witness against the Zemun Clan into changing his testimony. After he refused, the Clan killed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milovic also spoke about Seselj\u2019s close ties with the Zemun Clan as well as his wish to see the former Serbian pro-western Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, Djindjic was assassinated in 2003 by members of the Zemun Clan. At the time, Seselj had already surrendered to the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, which had charged him &nbsp;for his wartime actions in Croatia and in Bosnia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI do not have any personal conflicts with Seselj. He attacked me because of my professional work through which I found him involved in the assassination of Prime Minister Djindjic,\u201d Milovic said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He claimed Seselj was an active member of the Zemun Clan but was primarily focused on his personal financial gain. According to Milovic, on several occasions Seselj received payments of up to US$339,000 from the Clan, without elaborating what they were for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milovic\u2019s claims described the close relations between a war criminal, a mobster and Serbia\u2019s top officials, including President Aleksandar Vucic, ex President Tomislav Nikolic, Minister Loncar, and deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vucic, according to him, tried to intervene with police investigations in order to protect Loncar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also indicated the involvement of President Aleksandar Vucic and his establishment in attempts to control the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milovic expressed regret that he did not manage to prevent the politicization of the police, adding that he confronted the current authorities about political appointments of some members of the criminal police, which only resulted in their attempts to discredit him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Read full interview with Rodoljub Milovi\u0107 (in Serbian language) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"\/?p=28389\" target=\"_blank\">Read full interview with Rodoljub Milovi\u0107 (in Serbian)<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The retired head of Serbia\u2019s Criminal Police confirmed years-long rumors about the complex ties between the country\u2019s police, politicians, and criminal groups in an exclusive interview with\u00a0KRIK and NIN, published Thursday.
